Key Stage 2 marks an important phase in a child’s educational journey, where learning becomes more structured, and students begin to dive deeper into core subjects. In Years 3 and 4, children build on the foundations laid in earlier years and develop greater independence, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. These two years serve as a crucial time for academic growth, social development, and personal responsibility.
Year 3
In Year 3, students are introduced to more advanced topics. They enhance their reading and writing skills, focusing on comprehension, grammar, and creative writing. In math, they work with larger numbers, learn multiplication and division, and explore basic geometry and fractions. Science lessons involve hands-on experiments and observations, encouraging students to question, hypothesize, and analyze. The curriculum also includes, arts, music, general knowledge and ICT (Information and Communication Technology), helping students develop a well-rounded skill set.
Year 4
Year 4 continues to build on these academic areas, with an increased focus on problem-solving and critical thinking. Students begin to apply their knowledge more independently, working on more complex math problems, improving their writing structure and clarity, and exploring new scientific concepts. Group work, discussions, and presentations become more common, helping children refine their communication and collaboration skills. At this stage, students also begin to take on more personal responsibility, managing their time and tasks with greater independence.
Across both Years 3 and 4, students are encouraged to be curious, ask questions, and explore the world around them, with teachers guiding them towards becoming confident, lifelong learners. These years also place an emphasis on developing social and emotional skills, preparing students for the later years of Key Stage 2 and beyond.
